Frequently asked questions

Do I need to be a professional travel writer?

No. Strong writing ability and firsthand destination knowledge matter most.

Do I need to live in the destination I write about?

Not necessarily, but applicants must have genuine firsthand knowledge. Bazaarist reviews the nature and depth of each connection.

Do I need a public profile?

No. Travel Writers can work without a public contributor profile.

Can I become a Public Contributor later?

Yes. Approved writers may apply to expand their participation later without completing a new full application.

Are projects guaranteed?

No. Assignments depend on destination needs, contributor eligibility, availability, and platform demand.

How much are writers paid?

Bazaarist's freelance writers and contributors are paid per project rather than hourly. Most assignments fall within approximately $20–$80 USD per project, depending on the scope and type of work. The exact rate is always shown before you choose whether to accept an assignment, and writers are paid weekly for completed and approved projects.

What is a Paid Local Insight Session?

A Paid Local Insight Session is a short, structured video interview with the Bazaarist team where selected applicants share firsthand knowledge about their destination, local culture, traveler expectations, and other topics relevant to Bazaarist content. If you’re invited and complete the interview, you’ll be paid $20 for the 30-minute session, whether or not you’re ultimately approved as a contributor.

Can I contribute to more than one destination?

Yes. You can be approved to contribute to more than one destination if you have strong firsthand knowledge of each one. During the application process, you can list the cities or destinations you know well, and Bazaarist may approve you for multiple locations based on your experience and familiarity with them.

Do I have to accept every assignment?

No. Freelance contractors are free to accept or decline assignments based on their availability and interest. Contributors who consistently accept and successfully complete projects may be considered for additional opportunities.

How do payments work?

Payments are issued weekly for completed and approved work. Each project will show its compensation amount before you accept it, so you’ll always know what you’ll earn in advance. Payments are made through PayPal or by direct bank deposit via Wise, depending on availability in your country. Contributors are responsible for providing accurate payment information and completing any required tax or contractor documentation before receiving payment.
